Remember when #MeToo was everywhere? You couldn’t open the Twitter (X) app without it being in the top trending subjects every single day. How many powerful dudes in Hollywood got wrapped up in that and took a fall? Plenty, and they deserved it. Let’s face it, coercion is as bad as slipping someone a roofie. Some brave gals came out and exposed some bad people. Then some bad girls came out and tried to drag some decent guys down with false claims. Hell, even one guy came out and publicly apologized for what was only a bad date (Aziz). Seems like the movement sort of ruined itself, sad to say.
Harvey Weinstein and Caligula would have gotten along just fine if they were born in the same era. Then again, Hollywood has always been a sleezy town. Maybe Caligula would fit right in, be one of the boys at a typical Hollywood afterparty. Sucking down cocktails and fondling breasts and laughing about it. I wonder how many women Weinstein coerced into sex or sexual favors that refused to come out because of fear. Or, let’s be honest here, out of embarrassment. What woman in her right mind would want the world to know that she blew Harvey a dozen times to land a role in a big movie and he still only paid her 1/3 of what he paid her male co-stars? Plenty of women came to his defense, ironically.
I think social media has allowed us to see celebrities without their constant 24/7 protection that covers up for them. It was a lot easier to hide in the 80’s and 90’s. Now, in 2023, we can watch Britney Spears melt down on Instagram all the time. Dancing and twirling. Sure, she still has a great body. Have you stopped looking at her bum long enough to see her dead eyes? She’s empty. What has that woman been through? Hollywood (and the entire entertainment industry) seems to take dreamers and eventually turn some of them into burned out zombies that have probably had their souls, and their bodies, fed to the Hollywood meatgrinder. Pray for these people. Seriously.
