Who doesn’t love a good spy movie or book? Seriously! The action, adventure, intensity and uncertainty of the stories and characters make for some of the best entertainment. Just for fun, let’s do a couple of lists, shall we?
What are your favorite spy movies? These go back for decades, obviously. One I hold dear to my heart is Casablanca…yes, the same one with Humphrey Bogart. It might be a bit of a romantic piece, too, but it certainly is a spy movie. It’s one of my all time favorites. I’m guilty of owning a lot of Bogart movies on DVD. I adore classic movies. And there are many spy movies that deserve a ton of recognition, but I’m only going to list my top 5. Feel free to add your favorites in the comments.
In no particular order:
The Bourne Identity
From Russia With Love
Three Days of the Condor (trust me, you’ll love it)
The Good Shepherd (I didn’t really want two Matt Damon movies on here, but this one is excellent!)
Atomic Blonde (Charlize Theron at her finest! The 80’s music in this fits the film perfectly!)
So what about spy novels? I’ve read my fair share and there are literally tons of them out there. This list could easily be 50 books long, but I’m only going to list five. Again, share your favorites in the comments!
The Spy Who Came In From the Cold by John le Carre (Fun fact, this is the top selling spy novel of all time.)
The Eagle Has Landed by Jack Higgins
The Quiet American by Graham Greene
The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth
The Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth (Again, hate to have two books by the same author, but Forsyth can spin a web for sure!)
